The gentlemen of Phi Gamma Delta at College of Charleston take their academic life very seriously. Through its entire history, our Chapter has excelled in Scholarship. We are very proud of the high standards that we require of our men and will continue to raise them in the future. In the Spring semester of 2009, we stood above the rest at the College, with our GPA of 3.098. We are very proud of this accomplishment!
Our chapter proudly announces that Phi Gamma Delta has once again proven its devotion to scholarship by attaining the highest fraternity GPA, 3.246 – a GPA that places us above the All-Fraternity, All-Sorority, All-Male, and All-Female grade-point average totals.
The Fraternity and Interfraternity Council GPA standards require members and pledges to maintain a GPA of 2.3 and 2.0, respectively. Our chapter has decided to reflect our commitment to scholarship by further requiring every member to maintain GPA of 2.5. This standard is maintained and expected of all Brothers and Pledges of the chapter.
We encourage Brothers to study together and, during busy testing periods, the chapter reserves or arranges exclusive locations for Brothers to study and tutor each other. One way that we encourage the Pledges to get into a healthy study routine is by sponsoring mandatory study sessions twice a week during their pledging semester. This has also been a good way to get the Pledges to better know each other and support one another. We believe in these policies and will continue to implement them to both help our men reach their academic potential and best aid our pledges in qualifying for the Educational Foundation’s AAA Scholarship.

We are confident that our scholarship will continue to improve and our goal is to maintain our spot with the highest GPA of any fraternity at the College of Charleston.
This semester we are proud to introduce the chapter’s first academic scholarship. The Black Diamond Scholarship will be presented annually to a Brother who has demonstrated extensive service to his community, has shown advancement in leadership, and has pursued academic excellence. Out of a pool of applicants, the Brother is selected by the chapter’s Scholarship Committee to receive the scholarship at the end of each academic year. In its first year, the recipient will be awarded a check for $100. This scholarship is expected to increase to $300 by Spring of 2011, and is expected to increase to its full amount of $500 by Spring of 2012. The name of each recipient will be put on a plaque which will hang in the fraternity house.
