This past semester our main financial goal was to charter by the end of the school year. This daunting task required fiscal responsibility along with a strong group-wide effort in fundraising. We had to cut back on a few events to meet this goal, but overall we were still able to have a wonderfully successful semester. As of August 21st, 2009 we had $2,291.22 committed to chartering; we now currently have $17,856.94 as of January 20th. We are at a zero dollar balance with Phi Gamma Delta International Headquarters and the College of Charleston.
During the Fall semester, we raised $11,110 for chartering. We raised more than $6,000 from a letter writing campaign to our friends and family members, approximately $2,000 from on campus fundraising events, and a spectacular $3,250 from colony brother contributions. To raise $2,000 with on campus events we hosted a pig roast and co-hosted a fundraising dance party with a student service organization. Next semester we will continue to fundraise with a letter writing campaign to the graduate brothers in the Charleston area, in addition to working College of Charleston athletic events, manning bake sales, and selling coffee and hot chocolate throughout our College community.
Our financial goals for this semester are simple. We aim to fundraise and save enough money to host a memorable chartering weekend with Phi Gamma Delta’s level of class, as well as continue to hold social and brotherhood events throughout the semester. We plan on saving approximately 25% of what we collect from dues to go towards our chartering fund. The remaining 75% will be used as the Colony’s budget for the semester. In order to finance and host social events we have paired up with other organizations on campus to help reduce event costs.
